CST Case Study - Weighted Bat Program

OUR WEIGHTED BAT PROGRAM COMBINED WITH STRENGTH TRAINING

1. Premise: Hitters are created, not born. Some have more / less athletic ability but hitting a baseball is a tough task at any age. In order to improve hitting with consistent power, we believe it’s a combination of skill & training. We believe to improve it’s two parts: one part specific hitting training / one part strength training. The specific hitting training is a combination of proper mechanics & the weighted bat specific training.

2. The Program: 5 weeks, 2 days a week of strength training and a specific weighted bat program. The strength training focused on legs and core combined with explosive movements. The hitting program was a regimented program that included under loaded bat, regular bat, and two overloaded bats. The hitting program followed a modified driveline / AXE bat program.

3. What We Measured: We took a baseline of exit velocity (tee and front toss) and swing speed with all 4 bats. We would then use that as our starting point.

RESULTS:

10 players completed at least 3 weeks of data. An additional number of players were not able to complete 3 full weeks for various reasons so we did not include their data. Ages were 15-17 years of age. We also include a 12 year old breakdown in this report, separate from the other data shared in this write up.

Observations: EVERY PLAYER increased their average exit velocity, peak velocity, or swing speed, no exceptions. One player stayed the same with exit velocity off the tee but improved exit velocity with front toss and increased their swing speed. One player decreased their soft toss exit velocity but improved in the other two categories. We will primarily focus on the results with their regular bat because at the end of the day, that’s what they will use in game situations. Player 5 had a significant jump. This particular player had not done very much training the prior 3 months leading up to this event.

Specific Player Results. Age: 12
